She Found Him Wandering In The Park

Richard Gere got a lifetime achievement honor, or something along those lines, at the Critics' Choice Awards, and his Nights in Rodanthe co-star Diane Lane was there to make sure he didn't get lost returning to his seat. I thought Buddhists were supposed to be all about rejecting material things and shit. So why is Gere accepting awards? It's only a little award so I guess it's okay. I'm assuming he made mention of Tibet in his speech. I wish the Chinese would stop oppressing those people - not because I care about the Tibetans but because I'm sick of people like Gere and that doucheface from The Beastie Boys ramming it down my throat.

I was going to add, "..and me" but-

Miss Tia, Karma for what exactly?
What did ppl do to deserve to live in a police state and be told who they can't worship and be forcibly sterilized and forbidden to leave? Are you saying ppl should just accept that? It has been going on for 50 years now. And they have not resorted to suicide bombing or other inhumane shit. I usually like your posts but this one was really ignorant. I have friends who have been in Chinese prisons because they wanted to worship a certain way. No one deserves to be tortured for that. Do some reading.

buddhists believe in that karma bunk, so why don't they think that tibet is karma?? who knows for what! they try to justify things in such fashion....so why not apply it to themselves for once?

i honestly have interest in reading about tibet/china as i have read enough about that...

i had a VERY bad personal experience with buddhist and i'm sure that taints my view....

but i don't like all this 'free tibet' shit regardless...how about we work on THIS country first?

Tia-

"buddhists believe in that karma bunk, so why don't they think that tibet is karma??"

Most of the pop-spirituality ppl throw around in USA is loosely- I mean very loosely- based on TB's understanding of Karma. Most Tib. Buddhists don't throw the word or the philosphy around. It is a field of study to them and their understanding of it is as we understand our laws of physics. ie they simply view it as cause-and-effect, one with a lot to study like any other science. There are over 26 volumes on it which have not yet been translated into English. In America, you hear ppl (like some of the celebs on this blog) throw the term around to mean anything. In fact Tibetans DO view the Tibet situation as an effect of the laws of Karma, but not in a way most Westerners would follow. And IMO it doesn't matter because the tragedy is so extensive.

"but i don't like all this 'free tibet' shit regardless...how about we work on THIS country first?"

I agree, I see so. many. people protesting for Iraq, Gaza, whatever when they don't donate to homeless shelters or animal shelters and there's a giant hotel being built over the one park in town. I think some people really just love to proitest and don't look squarely @ the issues.

However in Tibet's case... they are trying to survive and that is all. they are not blowing themselves up, they are not making their children march in the street with firearms, they are not kidnapping or doing other atrocities. They are trying to live by what they believe without going to jail or being rounded up and shot or confessing to fake crimes because someone is holding a gun to their child's head or a knife to their father's eye. So really they are applying their beliefs to themselves.

The fucking commie chinkernese destroyed something like 6000 temples in an effort to totally erase Tibetan culture and history.
