The gates of Hell have yawned open for one evil FOX News host.
All right, so "evil FOX News host" is redundant...
The man I'm talking about is John Gibson. Yesterday on his radio show, Gibson, in an apparent attempt at seeming hip, took it upon himself to make light of the death of Heath Ledger. Gibson played a clip of Ledger's line from Brokeback Mountain, "I wish I knew how to quit you," then quipped, "Well, he found out how to quit you."
Hilarious.
Gibson then went on a tirade against Ledger, calling him a "weirdo," and ripping the 28-year-old actor for his apparent death obsession (I guess Gibson has never experienced a black thought in his entire life - sure he hasn't). Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback, when Ledger's character Ennis says "We're dead" while talking to Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) about the possible dire consequences of continuing their relationship. Gibson follows Ledger's "We're dead" with his own mocking "We're dead," then goes on to (snidely) insist that Ledger's death was in fact a tragedy.
You can hear the whole thing here.
Gibson also thought it would be brilliant to keep dropping Ledger death references into his broadcast. One allegedly humorous bit:
Gibson: Apparently Heath Ledger was suicidal and his friends saw it coming. I think he watched the Clinton-Obama debate last night. I think he was an Edwards guy, cause he saw his Edwards guy was just completely irrelevant.
John Gibson, meet your new boyfriend for all eternity - Bubba the Flame-Dicked Ass-Rapist. It burns John...it buuuuuuuuurns.

John Gibson and faux news can go eat a dick.
I don't understand making light of someone's death, especially to go on about it like that. It's unfortunate that the "need" for 24 hour infotainment in the place of actually reading the news has displaced all dignity (and not just on Fox).
I'm glad I don't live in the USA and thus escape this putrid excuse of a news presenter. The least I would hope for is that this ''man'' is punished by his employers. Any death is a sad blow for the family, any death of a young person is far more poignant, especially when a young child is left without one of his/her parent.
Shame on John Gibson.
John Gibson is an ass..I hope he gets fired for those remarks...
Ledger was another elitist asshole actor drug abuser. Why are you fucks putting this dick on a pedestal. All these people do is wear makeup and pretend to be others for a living. Yes, a life was lost but not everyone is into worshiping these fucks.
5:49...Im not worshiping anyone, I just think its extremely insensitive to joke about anyones death, no matter how they died...
Classless. A total douche.
Asshole. I hate Fox News.
What a bigoted a**hole. Is he related to Mel Gibson? Same last name, same hate-spewing.

Why is it that people aren't allowed to say that it's a shame when someone has died....
Simply because someone *else* thinks the deceased person was worthless???
Are you such an egomaniac that you want people to share your views even on death? And why are you blowing things out of proportion? (offering condolances apperently now equals 'putting someone on a pedestal and worshipping them')
Why? Why do you have to grossly exaggerate in order to make your point?
Geez. What are people supposed to say when a 28 year old with a 2 year old daughter dies: Hahahaha, rot in hell, you actor? Why?
Because YOU think they are not 'worthy' of grief? Because you're so much better then them?
Gosh, what are you, Tom Cruise?
There's nothing wrong with feeling that his death is a sad event. It IS a sad event. Doesn't mean we're all weeping and groaning in utter despair, it just means that it's a sad event. I wish he hadn't died and I feel sorry for his child.
There. I said it. Now go stew in your own hatred and carve little pictures of dead elitist actors on your foreskin, so that you have something to look at when you wank and cum at the thought of your own greatness, shuddering with self-righteous pleasure in the knowledge that YOU are not falling into the trap of feeling sympathy for the family of a deceased person.
Go on! Be productive!
Grmbl.
I think the point is we don't want this kind of filth in our public discourse. Basic decency transcends religion, nationality, language, occupation and all that. Speaking ill of the dead is just plain disrespectful and it SHOULD turn people's stomaches.
Considering the global reach fox "news", and how unacceptable this would be for reporters ANY OTHER COUNTRY, US citizens should be disgusted at how they're being portrayed by proxy, through John Gibson.
If not for the overwhelmingly sympathetic and kind-hearted responses in the blogging community, this report (I'm in Aus) would have me seriously wondering if this were something other than a fringe opinion...
...it would leave me wondering, 'what kind of mean-spirited, disrespectful people must live in th US?'
Yeah, the glowing tributes can be viewed as more than a tad cynical...but at least it's responsible. Heath Ledger left behind very real people...a family who would have loved him...and would be mourning his death more than any of us could imagine. It's just not the time to be a shit-stirrer, 5:49.
DD grow up people have differing opinions. Why do others feel compeled to make you look at this person other than the way you viewed him. Please, you talk about hate. There is no hate involved Heath Ledger was no different than anyone else that has died. You should read something other than a blog or celebrity related news. Because feelings don't change with death.
Crabs, c'mon. John Gibson isn't a "news" anchor on Fox, he's a commentator on the passing scene, just like you! Crabs, when you express a blunt, hurtful opinion on, say, Tom Cruise, are you calling yourself a right-wing hater? Am I missing something? This blog is about the vacuity of celebrity culture, right? I only log on to this stupid site to read your brilliantly reckless opinions about all these celebrity dill-docks--including the newly stiff Ledger. In fact what Gibson said, should have been said by YOU. Crabs, are you pulling punches?
And all you left-wing, Fox-hating commentors have to recognize your dangerous, Stalinist tendency to abhor free and unfettered speech. You all scare me.
Right on, bro!

I never said Gibson was an anchor. I said he was a "host." He has a show, making him the host of said show. I say clearly in the post that he said what he said on his radio show and not in his capacity as a host on Fox News. It's fine if you want to trash me and call me a hypocrite, but at least pay me the courtesy of responding to my actual words, not the words you want me to have said because it helps make your argument.
Crabs, to be clear, I think your entertainingly poisonous attacks on the mad celebrity culture are a high form art and a high form of free speech. But when you attack another commentator, albeit a dork like Gibson, it clanks.
And relax, I'm not arguing, just commenting. Now don't let up, I'm counting on you to take no prisoners.
"And all you left-wing, Fox-hating commentors have to recognize your dangerous, Stalinist tendency to abhor free and unfettered speech. You all scare me."
Yeah? Do you really think Fox-news = free speech? Do you think that they give their journalists, hosts and commentators are free to say whatever they want?
Isn't is funny how the opinions expressed on fox news are disproportionally right-winged compaired to the population at large (and if you just look at the the population of those in journalism, even more disproportionate)? If they're hiring based upon skill, you wouldn't expect this bias. It's a concerted campaign to manufacture a perception of public opinion that is more right-winged than that currently held by mainstream America.
They'll cut someone's mic or shout down anyone who expresses discontent with the Bush admin, or Iraq....but apparantly there is no problem with mocking a dead-man. It does not even have any news-value. It's just pointless opinion that has nothing to do with anything other than upset people and/or distract them nutty fundamentalist christians with some daft pseudo crusade against a dead actor.
Great use of free speech. Somehow I don't think that was the intended use of that constitutional right.
And what the hell does Stalin have to do with anything??? The capitalists won, okay? Come out of the bomb shelter.
Well, now I'm really scared. To debate politics with the distinguished commentors of Crabbie's Hollywood is beyond pointless, and sad. I'll leave it with this: Fox is one network speaking from a right point of view. All other outlets speak decidedly left. If Fox really bothers you Skies, don't watch it. MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, BBC and the Linda Elerbee kiddie specials might be more comforting. Now, Crabs, what's that scallywag Britney up to?
Thanks for this article, really useful piece of writing.
