Wayward celebutard Nicole Richie may be looking at jail-time over her December 11, 2006 DUI arrest. On Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol gave the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office for review rather than the city attorney's office, suggesting that the CHP has recommended criminal charges against Richie. According to California law, repeat DUI offenders are subject to a mandatory 5-day jail term and a 1-year suspension of their license - and this would apply to Richie, who was previously charged with DUI in 2002. The more recent arrest stemmed from an incident in which Ms. Richie was seen driving her SUV the wrong way down a freeway, and after being pulled over, admitted to having ingested Vicodin and smoked weed.
When reached for comment, Nicole's adoptive father, Lionel Richie, pointed at his ear as if he couldn't hear what was being asked.
